What's New in ArcGIS Indoors

Managing indoor spatial data and facility workflows presents unique challenges for campus facility managers and GIS professionals. Recent releases across the Esri platform have brought significant advancements to ArcGIS Indoors, Esri's comprehensive indoor mapping solution for facility and space management.
Key enhancements include simplified floor-plan authoring, easier integration of reality capture data, refined space planning, condensed indoor routing workflows, improved mobile user experience, and enhanced situational awareness in mobile and web applications.
Improvements to Reality Capture Workflows
Building and maintaining an indoor GIS dataset typically requires intensive manual data editing and conversion. In ArcGIS Pro 3.7, floor-aware editing automation significantly reduces repetitive field entry by automatically populating attributes, such as Level ID, Z-values, and Gross Area during feature editing.
Advancements in data conversion tools are streamlining ingestion. For example, the Generate Floor Plan from Point Cloud geoprocessing tool in ArcGIS Pro converts 3D point cloud building scans directly into vector floor plan features. It includes a Simplify Lines option that automatically smooths linework and removes noise from furniture and other building features. While this tool doesn’t provide a 100% solution for creating architectural-quality floor plans, it can provide a good vector baseline for further manual refinement.
The Floor Plan Editor, available with the ArcGIS Indoors Spaces add-on, is a web-based app in ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise. It lets non-GIS facilities staff import 2D floor plans directly from CAD and Autodesk Revit BIM models into indoor GIS layers and supports web-based georeferencing without requiring ArcGIS Pro or AutoCAD. The most recent update as of June 2026 includes the ability to import floor plans directly from vector PDFs, making indoor mapping easier and more accessible to non-GIS and CAD users.

ArcGIS Pro 3.7 also improves desktop indoor GIS workflows. The Extract Floor Plan Features From PDF geoprocessing tool lets you extract features directly from vector PDFs, such as generating linework and extracting text to point features.
Facilities teams can also now natively integrate 360-degree reality capture photos into Oriented Imagery datasets using the Import Indoor Images tool, enabling visual walkthroughs in Indoors Viewer and Indoors Mobile. The new 360 Video To Oriented Imagery tool in ArcGIS Pro 3.7 extracts geolocated, oriented image frames from 360-degree video, allowing continuous video capture and reduced manual photo processing.

Improved Indoor Routing and Quality Control
The ArcGIS Indoors tools for building indoor route networks have been consolidated and enhanced. The legacy multi-step workflow has been consolidated into the Generate Indoor Network Features tool.

ArcGIS Indoors Maps for ArcGIS Pro now includes additional support for ArcGIS Data Reviewer. This capability lets GIS teams automate quality control checks when building indoor route networks, helping to identify broken pathways, disconnected floor transitions, or topological errors before publishing maps to end users.
Additionally, new Evacuation Planning workflows enable facility managers to use indoor routing and spatial awareness to design, optimize, and share structured evacuation strategies for crisis events, ensuring safe exit routes for occupants.
Frictionless Visitor Navigation and Mobile Upgrades
Field staff and visitors are benefiting from continued enhancements to Indoors Mobile 2.0. The Indoors mobile app features a modernized user interface, dark mode support, turn-by-turn indoor routing, search and wayfinding tools, and indoor positioning powered by ArcGIS IPS (Indoor Positioning System).
To simplify visitor navigation, ArcGIS Indoors now supports iOS App Clips. This feature transforms the visitor experience by letting users access indoor maps without downloading the full mobile app or completing onboarding.
How it works:
Visitors scan a QR code at a hospital, airport, or university campus to launch a lightweight, full-screen map experience.
Visitors can then search for places, amenities, and personnel while receiving turn-by-turn directions. Facility IT admins deploy this capability using existing Indoors app configurations without additional software deployment.

Optimized Space Planning & Reservations
The latest release of ArcGIS Indoors Spaces includes space optimization tools, new reservation options, and finer planning controls to support visitor needs, workspace availability, and operational efficiency. These include:
Percentage-Based Shared Allocations: Departmental space allocations to support fractional sharing between business units.
Flexible Reservations: Reservation managers can now book room or hoteling office spaces for visitors and guests from outside the organization, filter space searches by equipment (e.g., sit-stand desks, dual monitors), specify scheduling limits for office hotels in maximum hours, and send mobile space check-in notifications.
