So you don’t know Matt Supert at the Village of Western Springs? Well you came to the right place to learn more. Matt serves as the Director of Municipal Services, carrying several different responsibilities involving public works and infrastructure management, capital planning, GIS management, and oversight of their low pressure R-O water treatment plant. He has been working with the Village since 2007 and serving as Director since 2011. He has found tremendous help from the use of Esri’s ArcGIS platform and has recently integrated Dude Solutions for integrated work order management which ties directly into his GIS system. Below are some interview questions that were asked of Matt along with his answers to help folks get to know him and how his organization benefits from GIS:
How has GIS saved you time and/or money?
“At the Village, we setup a road assessment inventory program using GIS that we linked with an MS Access database allowing us to have a complete picture of road maintenance history as well as forecasting tools for future road maintenance. In fact, it was a critical component in securing two (2) village-wide referendums for roadway infrastructure improvements totaling $18M over the past few years.”
How do you plan to use GIS more in the future?
“Our goals are to get more internal users actively involved with the GIS workflows, enhance our user engagement experience, and add work order facility management capabilities.”
