Meet Jim: Avid Writer, Fisherman, and Mapper!

When it comes to experience in the world of mapping and GIS, Jim is a seasoned expert with over 37 years under his belt. Most recently, he served as an LIS Supervisor and LIS Analyst for Waukesha County. Before that, he lent his expertise as a GIS Analyst for the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission and worked as a CADD Operator for Intelligraphics Inc., a utility and infrastructure mapping company. Jim wears the badge of honor (and the battle scars) of having worked with three different GIS platforms over the years, namely: Esri, GeoMedia/MGE, and Genamap.

His tenure at Waukesha County was marked by outstanding achievement, as his department earned the prestigious Esri Special Achievement in GIS Award in both 2004 and 2018.

Jim has many talents outside of mapping. He is a published author and poet with four traditionally published memoirs and is excitedly awaiting the publication of his sixth poetry book next spring. His current literary focus is on a collection of short stories.

This past summer, Jim crossed off a bucket list item by enrolling in Milwaukee's learn-to-row program. There, he learned to be part of an eight-person rowing crew.

Jim's love for the outdoors is evident in his hobbies. He's a passionate fisherman, with a recent obsession for pursuing the mighty muskies of northern Wisconsin. He's also an avid biker and kayaker and loves to travel to faraway destinations with his wife.

Jim's dedication to his professional community is commendable. He's been a longstanding member of the Wisconsin Land Information Association and even served on the board from 2016 to 2018. Additionally, he's a member of the Wisconsin Writers Association and the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets.

Jim and his wife, Donna, call Waukesha, Wisconsin home, and have two children: Sarah and Ben. Sarah, like her father, is a University of Minnesota graduate. On the other hand, Ben graduated from UW-Madison. They are a true Big Ten family, divided by their alma maters.

Beyond his professional and personal pursuits, Jim also has a heart for volunteering. Over the years, he's dedicated his time and energy to organizations like Friedens Food Pantries, The Guest House of Milwaukee, Milwaukee Rescue Mission, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee.

Jim is joining our team as a Business Development Specialist, focusing on local governments in Wisconsin. He looks forward to (re)connecting with the Wisconsin community and supporting our business efforts in the state.
