ILGISA 2021 Recap: Connection Reestablished

Cloudpoint was thrilled to not only sponsor this great conference and organization once again, but we were also ecstatic to see everyone in-person again! After a trying past year of virtual conferences, getting together again (even with the continued safety of masks) and reconnecting was a wonderful experience.

Monday morning kicked off with breakfast and the opening of the exhibit hall. Cloudpoint was front and center with our dedicated staff. The booth was hopping from the start, and we were able to reconnect with many past, current, and future clients.

Erin and Hunter showing off their big brains

During the day Erin Strickler and Hunter Ray presented “Work Smarter, Not Harder: Save Time with Attribute Rules”

Attendees learned basic ArcGIS Pro and Arcade knowledge, to help them automate many of their data conversion tasks (both simple and not-so-simple) that take their time and steal their sanity. They walked away from the session with the knowledge to immediately implement simple Attribute Rules and begin dreaming and scheming about the more complex ones that could have a big impact on their workflows.

Monday night the fun really kicked into gear with Trivia Night, of which Cloudpoint has been a long time sponsor. Toto (our 11” tall tornado shaped display) landed in Lisle IL was able to make an appearance. We had so many staff we had to split into 2 teams, and both made a valiant effort (hey we weren’t dead last), but alas neither team was able to take home the trophy. As those Cubbie fans say, “There’s always next year.”

“Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.”

Tuesday was another busy day, with exhibiting, presenting, and having Mike Genard and Hunter Ray take on the task of preparing and running a three hour workshop.

Newly appointed ILGISA Board Member Matt Junker presenting on ArcGIS Pro Parcel Fabric

Matt started things off with his session on Land Records with “Give Your Land Records a Spin with ArcGIS Pro Parcel Fabric.” They discussed what you need to know to make a smooth transition from ArcMap to ArcGIS Pro; along with software and licensing considerations, data management and branch versioning, record-driven workflows, and ArcGIS Pro editing tools.

Mike and Hunter schooling people on the wonders of Survey123 Connect

Lunch was delicious while also having the informative annual business meeting take place. During the meeting a proud moment for Cloudpoint happened with the announcement of our very own Matt Junker being elected to the Board of Directors!

After lunch it was time to take the booth down, but things were just heating up with the last half of the day. Hunter and Mike dove into their three hour tour. “Concepts & Techniques of Survey123 Connect & Submitting Survey Forms as Related Records” was a hands-on workshop to explore concepts and techniques needed to harness the power of Survey123's smart-form capabilities using Survey123 Connect. Formatting XLS forms in Connect with field types/default values/appearances, setting up calculations/relevancies/constraints, and configuring survey settings were gone over, and participants had the opportunity to build their own survey forms.

With another ILGISA Conference in the books, the Cloudpoint team, tired but happy is grateful the entire ILGISA organization and all of the attendees that make this conference great every year. Here’s to ILGISA 2022!
